How to Make a Cozy for Ice Cream Pints

The other day I was trying to come up with a few stocking stuffer ideas for both of my daughters. My youngest daughter LOVES ice cream. So I thought I would make her a cute Ice Cream Cozy and cute it is! I love the thick soft feel of it. I know that she will use it all the time. This Ice Cream Cozy fits your standard pint size ice cream. We are in need of a grocery store trip so I didn’t have a pint size ice cream to put in this cozy. However, I did have a Bath and Body Works candle that fit in it perfectly for pictures.

I’m obsessed with the yarn that I used. It’s probably one of the softest yarns I have ever felt, no joke! I used Bernat Forever Fleece in the color White Noise. It’s a #6 yarn that creates ultra thick crochet projects.

Now, let’s get started on this fun crochet ice cream cozy!

Here’s what you are going to need:

Yarn: Bernat Forever Fleece in the color White Noise.

Crochet Hook Size: 10mm crochet hook. I am obsessed with the crochet hooks with the rubber handles. You can purchase this hook in the highlighted link above.

Yarn Needle and Scissors: Any yarn needle and scissors will work. You want the eye of your yarn needle to be big enough to fit this chunky yarn.

Let’s talk abbreviations:

This pattern is simple so here’s what you will need to know in order to make it. SC (single Crochet), HDC (half double crochet), SLST (slip stitch).

Finally for the pattern!

Create a magic circle.

Round 1: First, Chain 2 (this does not count as a stitch), next place 8 HDC (half double crochet) in the magic circle. If you aren’t familiar with a Half Double Crochet you can learn to crochet the half double crochet stitch by watching my Youtube video right here. Pull your yarn tail tight to close up the gap. SLST (slip stitch) to the top of the first HDC. Chain 2. Do not turn your work. We will be working in rounds. At the end of Round 1 you should have a total of 8 HDC.

Round 2: Now, Place 2 HDC in the CH (chain) 2 space. Next, place 2 HDC in each stitch all the way around. SLST to the top of the first HDC and chain 2. You should now have a total of 16 HDC at the end of round 2.

Round 3: First, place 2 HDC in the CH 2 space. Now, place 1 HDC in the next stitch. You are going to repeat the pattern of *2 HDC, 1 HDC* all the way around to the end. At the end, SLST to the top of the first HDC. CH 2. You should have a total of 24 HDC at the end of round 3.

Rounds 4-7: Place 1 HDC in the CH 2 space and in each stitch all the way around. SLST to the top of the first HDC. CH 2. At the end of round 7 you will still have 24 HDC.

Round 8: Place 1 HDC in the CH 2 space and in each stitch around. SLST to the top of the first HDC. CH 2. At the end of round 8 you will still have 24 HDC.

Round 9: Repeat round 8. At the end of round 9 you will still have a total of 24 stitches.

Round 10: SLST in each stitch all the way around the top of the Ice Cream Cozy. Fasten off your yarn and weave in your yarn tails.

That’s it! You have just created this super cute Ice Cream Cozy. It’s the perfect gift for any ice cream lover. Pick out their favorite colors and stick it in their Christmas stocking. Trust me, it will be one of the most used stocking stuffers. If you are looking for a few more cute gift ideas check out this Crochet Dish Cloth. It can be customized to match anyone’s kitchen.
