Boarding the Lightbulb potholder:

With your grey yarn, start in the top corner where the grey and green yarn meet.  SC in each stitch down the grey side.  When you come to the corner you will place 3 SC in the corner.  Work your way along the bottom edge again placing 3 SC in the second corner.   Now, work your way along the last side of the grey portion.  When you come to the place where the grey and green yarn meet fasten off.  Change to your green yarn and SC along the edge of the green lightbulb.  When you come to the very top point of the lightbulb place 3 SC in the top stitch.  Work your way back down along the other side of the green lightbulb.  When you get to the point where the green and grey yarn meet fasten off and weave in your yarn tails.  Repeat this for the second layer.

Attaching the two together:

Lay your 2 pieces on top of each other.  Make sure the wrong sides are facing each other when you do this.  If you are adding your extra heat proof cotton batting layer it will go in between the 2 pieces.  Starting with your grey yarn, attach where the grey and green meet, SLST (slip stitch) all the way around the side, bottom, and other side of the grey portion, Fasten off and weave in your yarn tails.  Now, attach your green yarn and SLST all the way along the edges of the lightbulb.  When you get to where the green and grey meet SLST and fasten off.  Weave in your yarn tails and you are all finished!

Brighten Your Kitchen: Crochet Avocado Potholder

Hi Everyone! Hope you are all having a wonderful day! It’s Friday and I thought I would share this adorable Crochet Avocado Potholder with you. It’s been rainy and cold here in Bozeman Montana the last week and I wanted something to brighten up my kitchen. I wasn’t in the mood for making something with flowers so I thought this Crochet Avocado Potholder was perfect. It’s bright enough for anytime of the year, yet brings that spring and summer vibe to the kitchen. This Crochet Avocado Potholder is made with 100% cotton yarn or bamboo yarn for functionality in the kitchen. Made double thick, this Crochet Avocado Potholder will be able to withstand the heat from all of your pots and pans.

Here’s what you will need for this Crochet Avocado Potholder!

Yarn: I used lily sugar and cream 100% cotton yarn for this avocado potholder. You’ll need 1 skein of Warm Brown and Hot Green, and 3 skeins of Dark Pine for your colors.

Crochet Hook: 5mm crochet hook. I love the crochet hooks that have the silicone handles. They are so comfortable to hold when crocheting.

Yarn Needle: You will need a yarn needle for weaving in those yarn tails. I really like the metal ones. I feel like they weave through the yarn much easier than the plastic ones.

Craft Scissors: Any pair of scissors will do for this Crochet Avocado Potholder. I like the smaller size that way they easily fit in my crochet hook bag.

Crochet Pig Potholder Assembly:

Step 1: Place the two crochet ears in the top corners of the Crochet Pig Potholder. Whip stitch (or what ever stitch you like to use) the two ears in place. Make sure to weave in your yarn tails in the back. Note: Remember that when you are weaving in your yarn ends to go back and forth at least 3 times.

Step 2: Place the snout at the bottom of the Crochet Pig Potholder. I like to line the bottom of the snout up with the top of row 8 (you will be able to see the seam between row 7 and row 8. Using the same stitch attach the snout to the potholder.

Step 3: Place the two eyes just above the snout. Attach the same way you did the ears and the snout.

Step 4: With black yarn, make the two nostrils on the snout. Starting from the back insert your yarn needle through the nostril. Make a line straight down, inserting your yarn needle through the front of the snout to the back. Go over the line you just created at least 3 times. This will make the nostrils stand out more. Clip your yarn and tie the two black tails in a knot. Weave in your yarn ends.

Step 5: With your light pink yarn, repeat the process in step 4 for the lines in the eyes.

Step 6: Now, grab your two pig bodies. Place the bottom piece right side facing down. Place the top piece with the face looking toward you on top of the bottom piece. Grab your dark pink yarn and your crochet hook. Attach the pink yarn to the top of the tow pieces of the potholder (make sure you go through both sets of stitches. CH 1, SC over the top of your yarn tail in each stitch all the way around to the beginning. SLST to the top of the first SC. Fasten off and weave in your yarn tail.
