Hi Everyone! It’s been a while. I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas, and New Year. We had a ton happen over the last few months. We found out that we were going to be grandparents, YAY!!!, we moved into a new place, our pregnant daughter and her husband moved back, and our youngest daughter moved back as well. Needless to say January was an extremely crazy month. Not to mention all of the insane weather that we’ve been having, a few weeks ago it was back down to -30 again. It looks like next week is going to be below zero again. I guess the groundhog was right and it looks like we will have at least another 6 weeks of winter here in Montana. In reality we will probably still have another 3 months or so.
The Promoter of Annie’s Kit Club reached out to me a few weeks ago and asked if I would be interested in doing reviews on their products. Of course I said yes. Annie’s Kit Club had me make a list of items I would like to review and they sent me this one, the Annie’s Caring Crochet Kit. I absolutely loved this kit when it arrived and I love the fact that the Annie’s Caring Crochet Kit products you make goes to cancer patients in need all over the country.
<a href=”http://<a href=”https://shareasale.com/u.cfm?d=751045&m=71249&u=3175406&afftrack=”>Annie’s Kit ClubsAnnie’s Caring Crochet Kit came with a detailed pattern that was extremely easy to follow and two different styles of hats to make. The one shown came with a scarf, I thought that it added a nice touch. The yarn itself was extremely soft and seemed to be of super high quality. I was worried in the beginning that it was going to be hard to work with because it was so soft, but that was not the case. It was a nice beginner friendly pattern to follow along with. The good thing about the Annies Caring Crochet Kit is that you will get a new kit every month.
I don’t know about your area but our hospital has programs where you can make beanies for cancer patients, beanies for newborn babies, and even receiving blankets for the newborns. I think that it’s a fun way to get involved in the community.
They wanted me to let you know that you would get 50% off of your first month on any of their kits if you sign up in the highlighted link above. So why not go ahead and sign up. If you are like me and live in a cold area It will give you something fun to do.
I did a YouTube video review for the Annies Caring Crochet Kit and you can watch it down below if you prefer.
Stay tuned as I’m going to be posting some really fun projects coming up here on my blog and my YouTube Channel, @montanacrochetcreations, as well. In the meantime, don’t forget to check out this fun crochet Chicken Drink Coaster, it’s a simple pattern and will work up in no time at all! Crochet Hook: 5mm crochet hook. Any brand that you have is okay. I really love the crochet hooks right now with the silicone handles. You can purchase them in the highlighted link.
Yarn Needles: Any yarn needle that you have on hand is great. I like the metal ones better than the plastic ones. They seem to weave through the yarn a little easier than the plastic ones.
Craft Scissors: Any pair of scissors you have on hand is great. I do like the smaller 4 inch craft scissors. They fit perfectly in my crochet bag with my hooks making it easy to take along everywhere I go.
Note: For a larger headband go up a hook size and for a smaller child size headband go down a hook size.
Special Instructions: Chain 2 at the beginning does not count as a stitch. Chain 3 at the beginning does count as a stitch.

Now for the Crochet Granny Square Pattern
For the Granny SquareMake 5
Round 1: With your purple yarn, create a MC(magic circle). CH (chain) 2. Place 8 DC (double crochet) in your MC. Pull the tail tight to close up the circle and SLST (slip stitch) to the top of the first DC. Fasten off your yarn and weave in your yarn tails.
Round 2: With your pink yarn, attach anywhere on the previous round. CH 3 (remember this counts as your first DC). Next, place 1 DC, CH 1, 2 DC (this creates your first corner) in the CH 3 space. In the next stitch you are going to place 2 DC. For the next stitch place 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC all in the same stitch (this creates your second corner). Now, place 2 DC in the next stitch. In the next stitch we are going to make another corner by placing 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC. Place 2 DC in the next stitch. You now have one more corner left to make. Place 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC in the next stitch. Finally finish off with 2 DC in the last stitch. SLST to the top of the CH 3 at the beginning. Fasten off your yarn and weave in your yarn tails.
Round 3: With your orange yarn, attach in a corner CH 1 space. CH 3, place 1 DC, CH 1, 2 DC in the CH 1 space where you just attached your yarn. This creates your first corner. Next, Place 2 DC in the spaces between each of the 2 DC clusters from the previous round. Now, repeat the process of placing *2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC* in the CH 1 spaces of the corners and 2 DC in each space between the double crochet clusters from the previous round. Continue doing this until you come back around to the beginning. SLST to the top of the CH 3. Fasten off your work and weave in your yarn tails.
Round 4: With your Oatmeal color, attach your yarn in a corner space. CH 3. Place 1 DC, CH 1, 2 DC in the CH 3 space. Now continue to place 2 DC in each space between the DC clusters. When you get to your next corner space you will place 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC in the corner space (the CH 1 space). Repeat by placing 2 DC in each space between clusters, when you come to a corner space you will create another corner by placing 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC. SLST to the top of the CH 3 at the beginning and fasten off your work. Make sure you weave in your yarn tails.
Putting The Headband Together
Step 1: Take 2 squares and place them wrong sides facing each other. Attach your yarn through the back loops of the top stitch on each square. CH 1 and place 1 SC (single crochet) in the CH 1 space. Now, continue to SC all the way to the other side stopping after you SC in the corner. Fasten off your yarn and weave in your yarn tails. Repeat the process until all 5 granny squares are attaches.
Step 2: You have all 5 of your granny squares attaches so, next, you are going to attach the 1st granny square and the 5th granny square together. You will do this exactly like you did when you attached each individual granny square together. DO NOT fasten off your yarn.
For The Boarder
CH 1 and SC in the CH 1 space. Now, place 1 SC in each stitch all the way around the top of the headband. SLST to the top of the first SC. Fasten off your yarn and weave in your yarn tails.
Now, attach your yarn anywhere along the bottom of the headband. CH 1 and SC in the CH 1 space. Place 1 SC in each stitch all the way around. SLST to the top of the first SC. Fasten off and weave in your yarn tails.

Hi Everyone! Today’s post brings you this adorable Crochet Cow Pot Holder. Just like the Chicken Pot Holder and the Crochet Pig Pot Holder, this Crochet Cow Pot Holder is made with super simple stitches. You all know that our kitchen has more of a modern country vibe so these Crochet Pot Holders fit in perfectly with our decor. It’s not over the top, but just enough to give your kitchen that cute country flare.
If you are the type that love’s to follow along with a video tutorial, I’ve created one. Check it out below.
Here’s what you will need to create your very own Crochet Cow Pot Holder.
Crochet Cow Pot Holder Supplies
Yarn: I recommend using cotton yarn so your Crochet Cow Pot Holder is a functional piece in your kitchen. Here’s what you will need: Lily Sugar and Cream Cotton Yarn in the colors
Yarn: I really love Lily Sugar and Cream Cotton yarn. You will need 2 skeins of White, and one skein of each of the following, black, pink, and brown. I feel like they are really good quality and are nice and soft. If you can’t find cotton yarn in your local store, you can purchase them through my affiliate link highlighted above.
Crochet Hook: 6mm Crochet Hook. I am obsessed with the crochet hooks with the silicone handles lately. I love they way they feel in my hand. If you can’t find them in your local craft store, you can purchase it through my affiliate link highlighted above.
Craft Scissors: I love the smaller craft scissors. They fit easily in my crochet hook bag. Of course, you can use any pair of scissors that you have on hand. However, if you want a smaller pair, you can purchase it in my highlighted link above.
Yarn Needles: You are also going to need a yarn needle. I recommend using a metal yarn needle as it cuts through the yarn much easier than the plastic ones. You can find an affordable set of yarn needles in the highlighted link above.

Round 1: Create a MC (magic circle). CH (chain) 2 (this does not count as a stitch). Next, place 10 DC (double crochet) into the magic circle. Pull the tail tight and SLST (slip stitch) to the top of the 1st DC. At the end of round 1 you will have a total of 10 double crochet.
Round 2: CH 3 (remember from here on out this will count as your very first stitch). Place 1 DC in the CH 3 space, and Place 2 DC in each stitch all the way around to the beginning. SLST to the top of the CH 3. At the end of round 2 you should have a total of 20 stitches.
Round 3: CH 3, Place 1 DC in the CH 3 space. Place 1 DC in the next stitch and 2 DC in the following stitch. Repeat the pattern of *2 DC, 1 DC* all the way back around to the beginning. SLST to the top of the CH 3. At the end of round 3 you should have a total of 34 stitches.

Round 6: CH 3, place 1 DC in the CH 3 space. Next, place 1 DC in the following 4 stitches. Repeat the pattern of *2 DC, 1 DC in the following 4 stitches* all the way around to the end. SLST to the top of the CH 3. At the end of round 6 you should have a total of 72 stitches. Fasten off your yarn and weave in your yarn tails.
For the Ears (Make 2)
Round 1: Create a MC, CH 2. Place 12 HDC (half double crochet) in the MC. Pull tail tight to close the circle and SLST to the top of the first HDC. At the end of round 1 you should have a total of 12 HDC.
Round 2: CH 2, Place 2 HDC in the CH 2 space. Next, place 2 HDC in the following 4 stitches. Now (all in the same stitch) place 1 HDC, 1 DC, 1 TRC, 1 DC, 1 HDC. Next, place 2 HDC in the last remaining stitches. SLST to the top of the first HDC. At the end of round 2 you should have a total of 24 stitches. Fasten off and leave a long tail for attaching your ears to the Crochet Cow Pot Holder body.
For the Nose (make 1) with pink yarn
Round 1: Create a MC. Place 6 HDC, 1 DC, 1 TRC, 1 DC, 6HDC, 1 DC, 1 TRC, 1 DC, 6 HDC into the MC. Pull tail tight and close up the circle. SLST to the top of the first HDC. At the end of round 1 you should have a total of 24 stitches.
Round 2: CH 2. Place 2 HDC in the CH 2 space. Next, place 2 HDC in each of the following 6 stitches. Now, place 2 DC in the next stitch. Place 2 TRC in the following stitch. Place 2 DC in the next stitch and 2 HDC in each of the next 6 stitches. Repeat by placing 2 DC in the DC stitches from row 1, 2 TRC in the TRC stitches from row 1, and 2 DC in the DC stitches from round 1. Finish by placing 2 HDC in each of the remaining stitches. SLST to the top of the first HDC. At the end of round 2 you should have a total of 34 stitches. Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Attach your cow nose to the Crochet Cow Pot Holder body. Note: At this point I thread my black yarn and create the nostrils on the nose. I do this by entering the Crochet Cow Pot Holder from the back and leaving a tail. I insert my needle just a few stitches down from the front to the back and tie the two tails in a knot. I then go in and weave in my yarn tails.
Now for the Eyes! (make 2 with your black yarn)
Round 1: Create a MC. Place 8 HDC in the MC. Pull tail tight to close the circle and SLST to the top of the first HDC. At the end of round 1 you should have a total of 8 HDC.
Round 2: CH 2. Place 2 HDC in the CH 2 space. Next, place 2 HDC in each stitch all the way around. SLST to the top of the first HDC. At the end of round 2 you should have a total of 16 stitches. Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail to attach the eyes to the Crochet Cow Pot Holder body. Note: Repeat the same process for the eyes that you did to create the nostrils, but with your white yarn.
For the Horns (make 2) using your brown yarn or yarn color of your choice
Row 1: CH 6 (leave a yarn tail long enough to attach the horns to the top of your Crochet Cow Pot Holder body). HDC in 2nd CH from the hook. Next, place 1 HDC in each of the remaining stitches. CH 1 and turn your work. At the end of row 1 you should have a total of 5 HDC.
Row 2: Place 1 HDC in the CH 1 space and in each stitch across. CH 1 and turn your work. You should still have a stitch count of 5.
Row 3: HDC2TOG (half double crochet 2 stitches together). Now, place 1 HDC in the next stitch, HDC2TOG the last 2 stitches. You should now have a stitch count of 4. CH 1 and turn your work.
Row 4: HDC2TOG the first 2 stitches. HDC2TOG the last 2 stitches. At the end of row 4 you should have 2 stitches remaining.
Row 5: HDC2TOG the last 2 stitches. Fasten off and weave in your yarn tail (remember not to weave in the yarn tail that you are going to use to attach the horns to the Crochet Cow Pot Holder body).
Putting Everything Together!
First, attach the ears to the Crochet Cow Pot Holder by weaving the yarn tail back and forth along the edge of the body. I placed mine where half of the ear hangs off the pot holder. I only attached the ears along one side. Weave in your yarn tails.
Second, attach the horns to the top of the pot holder with the long yarn tail. I attached my horns along the second row because you will need to leave space for attaching the back piece of the pot holder to the front piece. Weave in your yarn tails.
Third, attach the nose. I just picked a spot on my Crochet Cow Pot Holder that looked the way I wanted it to. I attached it with the yarn tail, weaving back and forth all the way around the edge of the nose. Weave in your last bit of yarn tail.
Finally, attach the eyes just above the nose of the cow in the same fashion as the nose. Weave in your yarn tails.
Details for the Eyes and Nose: With a piece of scrap black yarn, create the nostrils for the cow. I did this by looping my yarn from the back of the body, through the front, and back through the body again. Try and keep the two pieces of black yarn close enough to where you can tie them into a know and then weave in your yarn tails. I did the same thing with the white yarn for the eyes.
Attaching the back of the Crochet Cow Pot Holder body:
Reattach your white yarn to the top of the front piece of the body (along the top edge) and CH 1. SC in the CH 1 space and in each stitch all the way around, making sure to go through the back loop stitch of the front piece of the body and the front loop stitch of the back piece of the body. SLST to the top of the very first SC. Fasten off your yarn and weave in your yarn tails.
That’s it! You’ve just created another really cute farm animal pot holder to use in your kitchen. This crochet pot holder is super simple to make and and can easily be worked up while watch TV.

It’s really cold here in Montana today! End of February and the expected high is -12. It’s currently -30 with a windchill of -48 so I’m staying inside! That said, I figured I’d make some cute Crochet Coasters four the house. Holidays are all done and spring is on the way (well for us spring will be here mid June) for many of you. Since we are animal lovers I thought I’d make these adorable Crochet Coasters in the shape of a cat. The fun thing is you can get creative with them and make these Crochet Coasters in any colors that you want. They are the perfect crochet project for using up that scrap yarn.
You won’t need much for this Crochet Coaster project so grab your supplies and let’s get started!
Crochet Hook: 4mm crochet hook. I am obsessed with these crochet hooks that have the silicone handles. I love they way they feel in my hand when crocheting. It’s really nice that I do not have to worry about the hook slipping out of my hand when working on a project. If you are in need of a crochet hook I highly recommend the one highlighted in the link above.
Yarn: Any #4 worsted weight scrap yarn that you have on hand. I used Lily Sugar and Cream in Key Lime Pie. It was just some scrap yarn that I had laying around. I do recommend you using cotton yarn as it will soak up any moisture from your glass easier. You won’t need much maybe 30 yards if that. 1 Skein will probably make 4 of these no problem.
Craft Scissors: I love the smallercraft scissors like the ones in the highlighted link. They are small and fit perfectly in my crochet bag.
Yarn Needle: Any yarn needle will do, just make sure the eyes are large enough for your yarn to fit through. I like the metal ones better than the plastic ones. I feel like they weave through the yarn easier. If you need a set of yarn needles, I highly recommend the ones in the highlighted link.
Special Stitches: TRC (triple crochet): Yarn over your crochet hook 2 times. Insert your hook into the next stitch and draw up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops, yarn over again and pull through 2 loops, yarn over and pull through 2 last loops. DTRC (double triple crochet): Yarn over your hook 3 times, insert your hook into the next stitch and draw up a loop. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on the hook, yarn over and pull through 2 more, yarn over and pull through 2 more loops again, yarn over and pull through the last 2 loops on the hook.

If you wish for your Crochet Pig Potholder to be functional you can use the following colors in cotton yarn: Hot Pink, Coral Rose, and Black. Crochet Hook: 5.5mm crochet Hook. If you are in need of a new crochet hook you can purchase one through the highlighted link above.
Other Supplies: You will also need a pair of scissors for clipping your yarn and a yarn needle for weaving in your ends. If you wish to purchase a new pair of scissors and a yarn needle you can do so in the highlighted links above.
Yarn Needle: I love the metal yarn needles. I feel like they weave through the yarn much easier than the plastic ones. You can purchase a multi pack of metal yarn needles through the highlighted link.

Step 1: Place the two crochet ears in the top corners of the Crochet Pig Potholder. Whip stitch (or what ever stitch you like to use) the two ears in place. Make sure to weave in your yarn tails in the back. Note: Remember that when you are weaving in your yarn ends to go back and forth at least 3 times.

Make a line straight down, inserting your yarn needle through the front of the snout to the back. Go over the line you just created at least 3 times. This will make the nostrils stand out more. Clip your yarn and tie the two black tails in a knot. Weave in your yarn ends.

Step 6: Now, grab your two pig bodies. Place the bottom piece right side facing down. Place the top piece with the face looking toward you on top of the bottom piece. Grab your dark pink yarn and your crochet hook. Attach the pink yarn to the top of the tow pieces of the potholder (make sure you go through both sets of stitches. Merry Christmas everyone!!! Well almost, I can’t believe that tomorrow is Christmas and the end of the year is just around the corner. This year I really wanted to focus on making most of my gifts for friends and family and this really cute Crochet Headband is one of them. It’s super simple to make and works up fast. It’s the perfect beginners project. Even if you are in a last minute frenzy this Crochet Headband can be completed in as little as 2 hours making it the perfect last minute gift.
Let’s get started on this Crochet Pattern
You will need a few things. You probably have enough yarn laying around the house to complete this Crochet Headband.
Yarn: Any #5 Bulky yarn will work. I chose to use Caron Simply Soft in the color Soft Blue. I just loved the color of this yarn and it will match any outfit. You will need 1 skein or 150 yards of what ever yarn you want to use. You can purchase it in the highlighted link above.
Scissors: Any pair of scissors that you have on hand will work for clipping your yarn. I really enjoy using smaller scissors as I can fit them in my crochet hook bag. You can purchase a pair of smaller scissors in the highlighted link.
Crochet Hook: You will need a 5.5mm crochet hook for this Crochet Headband. If you do not have a 5.5mm hook you can purchase one in the highlighted link.
Yarn Needle: Any yarn needle that you have on hand will work. I like metal ones better, they seem to weave through the yarn easier than the plastic ones. What every yarn needle you choose just make sure the eye is big enough for the yarn to fit through. You can purchase a multi pack of metal yarn needles through the highlighted link.
Abbreviations: CH (chain), SLST (slip stitch), DC (double crochet).

Now for the Free Crochet Headband Pattern
Row 1: With your 5.5 mm crochet hook, CH (chain) 20. Place 1 DC (double crochet) in the 3rd chain from the hook (this counts as your first double crochet). Place 1 DC in each stitch all the way down to the end. CH 3 and turn your work. At the end of row 1 you should have a total of 19 stitches.
Repeat Row 1 until your project measures 20″ long. Once your Crochet Headband measures 20″ fasten off your yarn and leave a tail approximately 12″ long.
Creating the Twist!
Step 1: Lay your project wrong side facing down.
Step 2: Place the bottom of the project even with the top but off to the right side ( you want it to be in the left side of the project in the middle while the right side is hanging off of the edge).
Step 3: Take the right side of the project that is hanging off of the edge and fold it around to the back.
Step 4: Next, take the left side of the project and fold it over the top if the middle piece.
Step 5: Thread your tail through your yarn needle and stitch all the pieces together along the top. I try to line up the 4 layers of stitches so I can weave my yarn needle back and froth through the stitches. Once you have come to them end fasten off with a knot and weave in your yarn tails. Note: Remember, when weaving in your yarn tails make sure to go back and forth at least 3 times so your Crochet Headband doesn’t come apart in the wash.
Step 6: Lastly, flip your Crochet Headband inside out and it will automatically create the twist in the front.
