Create Your Own Colorful Crochet Table Runner for Thanksgiving

Today’s blog post has me thinking of Thanksgiving. This year we will be spending it in Colorado with our eldest daughter. She lives in a small apartment so we will be renting a house to stay in and celebrate Thanksgiving. I wanted to make something that was going to be easy to take with us for our visit to Colorado.

I dug through my yarn stash (yes, I have a yarn stash and it’s quite embarrassing, although mostly scrap yarn, lol) to see if I had colors that reminded me of Thanksgiving. Not to my surprise, I actually had all the colors I had in mind. I sat down with a Thanksgiving Crochet Table Runner in mind. At first I was going too do just one color and incorporate all the colors in the border and the fringe. I later decided that I wanted this Crochet Table Runner to be multiple colors. Colors of gold, orange, Burgundy, teal, brown, and green made this table runner the perfect addition for our out of town Thanksgiving.

Now for the Crochet Thanksgiving Table Runner

Note: When changing yarn colors work to the last stitch of the row. Insert your hook into the very last stitch, you should have 2 loops on your hook. Take the color of yarn you are switching to and draw it through the two loops. Chain 1. I like to secure my two different yarn pieces with a knot to ensure it will not come loose in the wash. I then weave in all my ends at the end of the project.

Row 1-6: With gold, chain 63. SC (single crochet) in the 2nd CH (chain) from the hook, *Skip 1 CH (chain), 2 SC (single crochet) in the next stitch*. Repeat this pattern until you have 1 stitch left, SC (single crochet) in the very last stitch. CH (chain) 1 and turn your work. Continue working this pattern for the next 5 rows for a total of 6 rows. At the end of each row you should have a total of 62 stitches. At the end of row 6 switch to your brown yarn.

Rows 7-9: With your brown yarn, repeat row 6. (SC, Skip 1 stitch, 2SC, remember only 1 SC in the very last stitch). At the end of each row you should still have a total of 62 single crochet. At the end of row 9, Switch to your green yarn.

Rows 10-16: With your green yarn, repeat row 9. At the end of each row you should still have a total of 62 stitches. At the end of row 16 switch to your brown yarn.

Rows 17-19: With your brown yarn, repeat row 16. At the end of each row you should still have a total of 62 stitches. At the end of row 19 switch to your orange yarn.

Rows 20-26: With your orange yarn, repeat row 19. At the end of each row you should still have a total of 62 stitches. At the end of row 26 switch to your brown yarn.

Rows 27-29: With your brown yarn, repeat row 26. At the end of each row you should still have a total of 62 stitches. At the end of row 29 switch to your maroon yarn.

Rows 30-36: With your maroon yarn, repeat row 29. At the end of each row you should still have a total of 62 stitches. At the end of row 36 switch to your brown yarn.

Rows 37-39: With your brown yarn, repeat row 36. At the end of each row you should still have a total of 62 stitches. At the end of row 39 switch to your teal yarn.

Rows 40-46: With your teal yarn, repeat row 39. At the end of each row you should still have a total of 62 stitches. At the end of row 46 switch to your brown yarn.

Rows 47-49: With your brown yarn, repeat row 46. At the end of each row you should still have a stitch count of 62. At the end of row 49 switch to your gold yarn.

All remaining rows: From here on out, repeat the above pattern, switching between colors. You should still have a stitch count of 62 at the end of each row. I repeated the colors one more time but you can repeat it as many times as you would like. It all depends on the size of your table. At the end of your very last row, fasten off and weave in all of your ends. Don’t forget that when weaving in your ends you go back and forth at least 3 times. That way when you wash it nothing comes loose.

For the Boarder: Insert your crochet hook anywhere along the top or sides (just not in a corner). I chose to use brown but you can use any color you want. SC (single crochet) in each stitch until you come to a corner. In the corner place 3 SC (single crochet) in the same stitch. Continue along placing a SC in each stitch until you come to the corner again. Repeat this all the way around to the very first SC. SLST (slip stitch) to the top of the first single crochet where you attached your yarn. Fasten off and weave in your yarn end.

For the Fringe: With your brown yarn, wrap around the palm of your hand 20-30 times. The more wraps you have the more yarn pieces you will have. Clip your yarn and pull off of your hand, holding on to the top loops of the yarn clip the bottom pieces. Now you have a good amount of yarn to start with. Take 2 strands of yarn and fold them in half, with your crochet hook inserted through the stitch, pull through but not all the way. Take the loop at the bottom and thread it over the pieces of yarn that has not been drawn through. Now, pull your yarn pieces tight and your have your first piece of fringe attached. Repeat this along the bottom in every single crochet. Feel free to alternate colors if you wish.
